Dublin, day 2 – Depeche Mode

14 Jun 2023 – another gorgeous day in Dublin – 70 deg and sun. Perfect for an outdoor concert later on. Started day with lots much at The Bank, Victorian-era bank building now converted to a restaurant/bar/mini-museum.

Tram ride (~45 min) north to Malahide Castle for the Depeche Mode show at 6! Walked along the waterfront and out the length of the estuary to have a look at the sea, then back into town for a couple of pints before the show, surrounded by DM fans.

The show was great – on the grounds of Malahide Castle, open festival set up. Nearly the same set list as Bratislava…great last night (for all intents and purposes) of our trip.

Dublin, Ireland

13 Jun 2023 – low key day today – hotel is apartment style – so laundry! Short walks out during cycles to get breakfast and pints – along the river, and a bit around Trinity College. Later, dinner at Darkey Kelly’s and some truly excellent seafood chowder- nearly 30 mussels in there!

Edinburgh, day 4 – Leith, then Dublin

12 Jun 2023 – our final day in Scotland – but flight not until late afternoon, so took the opportunity to get over to Leith, northern suburb of Edinburgh, for view of the sea and some fresh fish and chips. Caught a view of the HMY Britannia – retired Royal Yacht, and a very nice view of a small harbor and lighthouse from our lunch spot – excellent fish and chips, and another local beer.

Cab to Edinburgh airport. Short flight to Dublin – but nearly an hour delay…by the time we got to our hotel our only option for some food was a bar pizza at a nearby pub. And a couple of pints of course.

Edinburgh, day 3 – Edinburgh Castle

11 Jun 2023 – rain this morning! First in three weeks – early morning, basically done before we headed out to town to meet our lovely Jade, and head off on a brief walk for lunch. Different views of the old town from the south…

Back up to the castle – more great views from below – how’d you like to try storming this one?

Self-guided Castle tour – Robert the Bruce and William Wallace guarding the main gate.

After the castle, checked into a couple of pubs before landing back at the Albanch, and a then saw Jade off back home. Late supperj at a tapas place, then bus back to our beds. Still not fully dark at 1025pm…love the northern latitudes…
