Glasgow – pt 3

After a couple of non-stop days of flying, walking, standing and, well, drinking, we decided to have a bit of a sleep in and got our last day here in Glasgow started a bit later.

Headed out to “Paradise” – aka Celtic Park to take in a footie match – Celtic FC vs Dunfermline for a round of 16 match of the Scottish League Cup. Another amazing weather day – perfect for a match – and great seats for only £15 day of the match. And got extra time before a Celtic victory!

then after another pub and met some more great Glaswegians – we have found this to be a very friendly country!

Finally a fantastic Italian meal at Fratelli Sarti – including an amazing tiramisu. Off back to Ireland in the morning…

Glasgow- pt 2 – The Cure!

2019 Glasgow Summer Sessions – Ballyhouston Park, Glasgow Scotland

First major surprise of the day – sunshine! Bus ride out to the park dropped us in an unexpectedly warm, sunny day for a great day/evening of music.

First band up : The Joy Formidable – a Welsh band that rocked it out to start the day. Next: The Twilight Sad – a Glasgow band that also opened for the Cure when we saw them in Atlanta a few years ago. Big sound, lots of fun, loved being in front of their home crowd. The third band was Mogwai – another Glasgow band, not much for lyrics but an interesting sound.

Then The Cure hit the stage around 8:30pm and just nailed it for two plus hours. 27 songs – https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-cure/2019/bellahouston-park-glasgow-scotland-239fe0f3.html a tremendous night, almost no rain, and Robert Smith enjoying the hell out of himself.

The Twilight Sad

To wrap the night, we hit a bar with some newly made friends and enjoyed some Glasgow late-night disco music (😏).

with new friends Angie and Maggie

More Glasgow tomorrow!!

Glasgow pt 1

Early, wet start today up and to the airport for 7:20a flight to Scotland. Spotted one Cure t-shirt in the plane – we’re not the only ones flying in for this one.

Coffee and cider in the airport and then bus into the city to wander around a bit before we head to the show. Supported the local economy by picking up some natively-sourced all natural beverages, got held up by some random pipers, and stopped in at a local publican for a meal.

Dublin!

Been a couple of years but we have returned for our 7th visit to the Emerald Isle. Arrived early 5am local – and immediately had a bit of adventure as our luggage was delayed getting to the carousel. But all good eventually. We have the day here to kill before early bed and an early flight to Glasgow tomorrow.

Bus into the city – actually sun out! – and wandering the city. Breakfast/Bloody Mary at The Boxty House, then across the street to Temple Bar for first pint of the day and an oyster shooter.

well… that first pint of the day turned into 8 or 9 – well ok 14. More tomorrow – Glasgow!

Europe 2019

Haven’t posted for a while, but that will happen … I just don’t have enough to say daily I suppose….

Today we embark on our next trip – 10 days of Scotland and Ireland – mostly Ireland. This trip is built primarily around a Glasgow music festival – featuring The Cure. Show is Friday night – today we fly ATL-BOS-DUB and the spend overnight in Dublin before flying to Glasgow for the show.

We’ll return to Ireland and spend time in some old haunts and new…more in those later.

Off on our jaunt! From 96F in Atlanta to highs in low 60s and rain…
